Florida senior citizen pleads guilty to involvement in Jamaican lotto scam

A 72-year-old man from Florida in the United States has acknowledged having been in the midst of the criminal undertakings of a Jamaican lottery scam that mainly targets elderly people.

Ronald John Mendleski, of  Bokeelia, has pleaded guilty to his role in selling personal information in the Jamaican-based scam.

He has acknowleged having operating the US$1.5 million scheme for a number of years, and also identified people who responded to mass mailings that they supposedly won or were going to win expensive prizes.

Mendleski sold the information of a huge number of persons who were considered susceptible to falling for the scam. The information was sold to persons in Jamaica as part of a scam between September 2011 and November 2012.

Mendleski is to be sentenced at a later date.
