A detective sergeant from the Mobile Reserves was reportedly injured by hand grenade and an alleged gunman fatally shot in a joint police-military operation in the Armadale area of Alexandria, St Ann on Thursday night.
The security operation, which is still underway in the Alexandria area, is geared towards apprehending suspects believed to be involved in the quadruple murder in Westmoreland on Saturday night.
Initial reports are that sometime after 9 pm Thursday, the police came upon a house in the Armadale area. As the police approached, armed occupants of the house reportedly threw hand grenades at the lawmen in an attempt to escape.
A gun battle reportedly ensued and, when it subsided, one of the police officers was discovered to have suffered chest injuries as a result of the explosion of the explosion of a grenade. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated.
During a search of the area on Friday morning for the alleged gunmen, the body of a man suspected to be one of those who attacked the police was reportedly found. The alleged gunman was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He remains unidentified.
